Advice on living with allergies
Allergy symptoms may make you feel miserable when they happen every day. Don't give up.
There is hope.
Here's how to help keep symptoms from bothering you as much:
- Take your medicine as your doctor tells you to take it.
- During pollen season, keep house and car windows closed. Use air conditioning instead. If you can, set your car to recycle the air.
- If your home or office is humid, use a dehumidifier or an air conditioner to keep mold from growing. Clean all moldy surfaces.
- Dry clothes inside. Don't hang them outside to dry.
- Avoid using window fans. They bring in outside air.
- If you must have furry pets, keep them outside or out of your bedroom.
- Avoid outside exercise and other activities when pollen counts are very high. Different plants release pollen in different months.
- Avoid mowing the lawn and raking leaves.
- Once you come back inside, take a shower and change your clothes.
